Using Maya 2016 for the first time
In my 3D modelling class we were told to open up Maya and make a spaceship. So firstly, after opening up Maya and getting used to the mouse and camera controls, I selected the cube polygon and dragged the cube onto the grid. Next I resized it by pressing R and I pressed W to adjust its position. Next I held right click and changed from object mode to face mode and selected one side of the box and then I clicked on "Extrude" and dragged the face out, I did the same to the other side. These extended faces would become my spaceship's wings. I clicked G on the keyboard which then did the last action I did, which was extruding the sides, on both faces and narrowed and extended them more so that they looked more like wings.
Because it was my first time using Maya, my spaceship was a pretty simple design. Next I added applied a material to my spaceship, I did this by clicking on "Rendering" at the top bar and selected "Lambert" which is a matte texture, and then I opened up the Attribute Editor and then I changed the colour of the Lambert texture that I selected, I changed the colour to red.
I then smoothed my spaceship by changing back to object mode then holding down the spacebar and then I clicked on "Mesh" and then I clicked on "Smooth" then clicked on apply.
And my spaceship was done!
